Sunday the 23rd of June 2013 was the official opening of the Holbrook section of the Hume freeway which will bypass the Hume highway passing through town. As usual these events never seem to coincide with the actual opening but our then PM Julia Gillard was present to do the honours. Probably one of her last appointments before she was Rudded 3 days later.
The organisers invited a number of clubs including our Classic Motoring Cub of Wagga Wagga to participate in a combined clubs’ display of heritage vehicles at the submarine park in Holbrook for the occasion. Oddly they were providing busses to take people up and down the new freeway for the day but would not allow personal vehicles on the new road. Somebody had spread a spurious rumour that some classic vehicles might leak oil on the new concrete.

- Wilma Cox, Nancy Nicholes, Kristine Bormann and Liz Owen, gathered around the Nicholes’ 1949 Ford Custom in the display area.

- Jim (with other car enthusiasts ) Liz , Roger and Wilma at the official ceremony, waiting to welcome Julia Gillard. And of course we should mention that fence that failed to hold Roger back on more than one occasion.
