Driving on H Plates

CMC-Logo_edited-1In New South Wales it is permitted to drive a classic vehicle with historical registration plates (H plates, vehicles 30 years or older) on the public roads so long as you are a member of a registered motoring club and that the club have passed you vehicle as being road worthy and that your vehicle complies with the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) Regulations.

The times when you are permitted to drive your car on public roads is :-

  • on any and all days of the year so long as the journey has been approved by the club and is gazetted i.e. one which is listed in the club minutes, newsletter or other publication (website, newspaper etc).
  • to vehicle restoration classes that you are enrolled in.
  • to the regular meetings of the motoring club in which you are a member.
  • for mechanical runs to check maintenance and repair issues.*
  • Extensions to gazetted outings (time to get home etc)*
  • Special Journeys*
  • If breakdowns delay return from a trip so that you are returning later than gazetted, contact the Plates Registrar at that time.

*  must notify Club Plates Registrar prior to journey

Carry an up to date copy of the Coming events (from the website or magazine) and the phone number of the current Plates Registrar (from the magazine) in your glove box.
